Overview
This article details how graduate students can remotely access the student computer labs.
- Install and connect to SFU VPN
- Download the Windows app (Mac only)
- Select a computer
- Download the RDP file
- Sign in using your SFU username and password
Details
Step 1: Install and connect to SFU VPN
A SFU VPN connection is required to use the .RDP file downloaded in step 4.
Follow the instructions to set up SFU VPN on your device.
Step 2: Download the Windows app (Mac only)
For Windows, skip to Step 3.
Install the Windows App (previously Microsoft Remote Desktop) from the App Store.

Step 3: Select a computer
- Open the computer lab dashboard
- Click on a campus

Step 4: Download the RDP file
- Click the IP Address of the computer you want to use
- Allow the downloads from KeyServer
- Open the downloaded .rdp file to set up the remote connection.
Note: IP numbers can change from session to session. Always connect from the list of computers on KeyServer.

Step 5: Sign in using your SFU username and password
Sign in using your SFU computing ID and password. Use the format ADSFU\userid, or userid@sfu.ca:



Step 6: Sign out when you're finished with the computer
Sign out when your are finished to make the computer available for others. Remote sessions will automatically time out after 3 hours of continuous use to allow all students the opportunity to use our computer labs.
