CHANGES AND IMPACTS FOR STUDENTS
PAST COURSES AND CONTENT
None of your past courses will appear on Canvas Cloud. If you wish to visit a past course, visit canvas-old.sfu.ca.
BOOKMARKS AND LINKS
Existing bookmarks and links to Canvas may not work anymore. Update bookmarks and links if they are directed to a specific course on Canvas.
CANVAS PROFILE
Your Canvas profile settings did not move over from the old Canvas to Canvas Cloud. If you want your profile to look and work the same as before, you’ll need to set these up again in Canvas Cloud. This includes:
- Biography Information
- Profile Photo / Avatar
- ePortfolio
- Notifications and Profile settings
Note: If notifications are important for keeping up with your courses, we recommend reviewing and updating your settings as soon as possible at canvas.sfu.ca/profile/communication.
Note: If you want to change your first and/or middle name, edit your name on goSFU. Your display name in Canvas will be updated within 24 hours. See Changing Your Name in SFU Systems for details.
CANVAS INBOX
Inbox messages from the old Canvas did not transfer to Canvas Cloud, but you can still view past messages canvas-old.sfu.ca.
CANVAS FILES
Files stored on your old Canvas account did not transfer to Canvas Cloud, but you can still access them at canvas-old.sfu.ca.
PERSONAL QUOTA
To help keep Canvas running smoothly, storage limits are managed differently than before. Personal storage quota for each Canvas user is set to 50 MB. File submissions to graded assignments don't affect personal quota. For large media files, we recommend using other platforms such as OneDrive. Learn more about Storage in Canvas Cloud.
