OVERVIEW

This article explains how to use Mediasite Capture to record your lectures directly from your web browser.

Mediasite Capture allows you to record your computer’s desktop, webcam, and microphone without installing additional software. Recordings can be paused and resumed so you can present at your own pace. When finished, your video will upload to your MyMediasite account, where you can manage, edit, and share it with your audience. Mediasite also includes a web-based editor for trimming and simple edits.

  • Recording sessions must be started from the MyMediasite portal.
  • Recording durations cannot exceed 2 hours.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

  • Verify your system meets the requirements:
    • Operating Systems: Windows 10, Windows 11, macOS
    • Browser versions: Chrome (77+), Edge (79+), Firefox (68+)
  • Ensure your microphone and camera are working.
  • Perform a test run before your first presentation.

 

START A RECORDING

  1. Log into My Mediasite and click Add Presentation.

        2. On the Add Presentation page, select In-Browser

        3. Type a title for the presentation and an optional description. 

 

CHOOSE RECORDING OPTIONS

When Mediasite Capture opens in a new browser tab, select one of these options: 

  • Display: Record your desktop (screencast). 
  • Display & Camera: Record your desktop and webcam together. 
  • Camera: Record webcam only. 

Complete the setup by following the on-screen instructions:  

  • Camera: Click Allow when prompted. Use Settings to select the correct camera. 
  • Display: Choose what to share: 
    • Browser Tab (Note: macOS + Firefox does not support this) 
    • Window 
    • Entire Screen 
  • Microphone: Click Allow and select the correct audio device. 

 

RECORD YOUR PRESENTATION

  1. Click Record to start.                  
  2. Use Pause and Stop as needed. 
  3. Hide any notifications before recording to avoid them appearing in the video.

UPLOAD AND SHARE

  • After stopping, you can optionally trim the beginning and end of the recording.
  • Once you are ready to save the recording to the Mediasite Server, click Upload to Mediasite. 
  • Once uploaded, you may close the browser tab. 

  • Once processing is complete, your recording will be available in your MyMediasite portal.  
  • Processing may take a couple of hours before the video is ready for viewing or sharing.
