What's the difference between Exchange, IMAP, and POP?

  • Exchange will sync your messages, contacts, calendars, reminders, and notes. Your messages and other content remain on the server if the account is removed from Apple Mail. This is the recommended way to set up your SFU Mail account.

  • IMAP will sync your messages and notes. Your messages and other content remain on the server if the account is removed from Apple Mail.

  • POP will download your messages to your Apple Mail client and remove a copy from the server unless specified otherwise. Setting up your account with POP requires special permission from an IT admin and accounts for less than 1% of accounts in SFU.
