DNS Management and Device Registration/Decommissioning Services Following Micetro Upgrade

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

Following the upgrade of Micetro (formerly Men & Mice) to version 26.1.1, the ability to manage Dynamic DNS (DDNS) records through the Micetro web interface is unavailable.

The vendor has confirmed that DDNS management functionality is missing from the current user interface. As a result, users cannot create or delete DDNS records directly through Micetro and must request assistance from Network Operations.

While most Micetro functionality continues to operate normally, workflows that depend on DDNS deletion, including some device decommissioning activities through wake.its.sfu.ca, may require manual intervention.

AFFECTED SYSTEMS / VERSIONS / USERS

Systems

  • Micetro (Men & Mice) version 26.1.1

  • Micetro Web Interface (mm.its.sfu.ca)

  • Dynamic DNS (DDNS) management functions

  • Device decommissioning workflows requiring DDNS deletion through wake.its.sfu.ca

Affected Users

  • ITS staff managing DDNS records

  • Faculty IT staff managing DDNS records

  • Local IT administrators managing DDNS records

  • Users performing device decommissioning activities that require DDNS deletion

WORKAROUND

DDNS Creation and Deletion

For all DDNS requests:

  1. Submit a request through the IP Address Configuration (DNS/DHCP) service page.

  1. Network Operations (NOC) will create or delete the DDNS record on your behalf.

Device Registration and Decommissioning

  • Device registration through wake.its.sfu.ca continues to function.

STATUS

The vendor has confirmed that DDNS management functionality is missing from the current Micetro UI. Their engineering team is working on a resolution. No ETA has been provided.

ETA / RESOLUTION UPDATE

August 18, 2026

The vendor confirmed that DDNS management functionality is unavailable in the current Micetro web interface. A support case was opened requesting restoration of the missing feature.

August 27, 2026

The vendor's engineering team continues to work on a fix. No ETA has been provided.

Current status:

  • DNS services are operating normally.

  • DDNS creation and deletion are unavailable through the Micetro web interface.

  • Device registration through wake.its.sfu.ca is functioning.

  • DDNS deletion associated with device decommissioning may require manual assistance from Network Operations.

  • All other Micetro functions are operating normally.

This revised version avoids implying that DNS as a whole is impacted and focuses specifically on the DDNS limitation, which appears to be the actual issue.
